Cantabile Singers are a ladies’ choir consisting of 28 singers who sing a new repertoire of 56 songs (and the same number for Christmas, including everyone’s favourite carols). They are trained by their Musical Director, Jen Morton, with the help of our brilliant new pianist, Christine Eames, an experienced teacher and professional piano player. Christine and her husband, Roger, also play jazz every Monday evening at El Pescadito Restaurant in Mil Palmeras.
Our song repertoire includes classical and romantic composers such as Bach, Bizet, Elgar, Mozart, Rodrigo, Schubert and Sibelius to more modern works by Karl Jenkins and John Rutter. We also sing songs from the shows such as Les MisĂ©rables, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats and Phantom of the Opera and Rogers & Hammerstein’s South Pacific and Oklahoma. Film themes also figure - Exodus and Lord of Rings being two favourites, along with Negro Spirituals, modern popular, Habaneras and traditional songs.
Training CDs are produced to help our ladies learn the music.
We practise at Villa Augusto Residence, Guardamar, near Portico Mar Restaurant, opposite the big mast off the N332, on Fridays from 4.00 to 6.00 pm.
We have a really colourful uniform: sparkly turquoise jackets over black or white top and trousers (depending on the season); also a second uniform – the same base with black embroidered shawls.
Concerts:
We perform 3 or 4 concerts each year, several of which are to raise money for charity. In the last 12 months alone we have made donations to: The Alzheimers Association, the Butterfly Children and the Church of the Immaculate Conception.
At Christmas we are usually invited to put on a traditional concert of Christmas music, carols etc by clubs in the region. This year we have four venues lined up and shall participate in the Ceremony of Carols in the Immaculate Conception Church Square in Torrevieja on December 11th.
The general public may hear our Christmas music at the Café Royal, next door to Portico Mar Restaurant, Guardamar on Friday 18th December at 3pm.
Cantabile is a friendly, sociable, dedicated group of ladies who really enjoy their singing and performing.
I have some excellent singers already in the choir but I want more!
