SCOTS AND SPANISH GET INTO PRACTICE FOR ‘BURNS’ CELEBRATIONS

Guardamar residents are busy preparing what will be ‘A Tribute to Robert Burns’ – the great Scottish poet who has been celebrated throughout the world this year on his 250th anniversary.

The planning group of both Spaniards and Scots have pulled together a programme of music and song to celebrate the bard’s life – and guest have been busy rehearsing their recitals for the big event. The pipes will be present, of course, as will the haggis and the whisky.

As Willie Hume, the group’s Co-ordinator explained ‘ We want to make it a very special event – not only for the Scots who will be present – but also for our Spanish guests who will join us in reciting, playing the bagpipes and community singing. The Celebration forms part of the annual festivities world wide and we hope to create a bit of interest in his works and legacy here in Guardamar.

The Tribute evening will take place on January 25th in the Hotel Meridional in Guardamar, where a meal will be served in his honour. Tickets for the event are still available and are priced at 20€ . For further details contact Willy on 672503339 or Maureen on 96 572 44 88 or 618180290.
